Another Sunday, More Futbol

From Football to Futbol

Instead of shooting the Tampa Bay Buccaneers decisive victory over the Carolina Panthers yesterday, I found myself back in Coral Gables, shooting our women's soccer match with FSU.

In five short years I've gone from having the ability to make my own schedule shooting for NFL Photos to wondering week to week if I'm going to get a NFL game from my current agency. The league dissolved NFL Photos in 2004 and I moved over to WireImage, one of two licensees of NFL imagery. The other was Getty Images. WireImage was acquired by Getty in 2007 and to no surprise I wasn't retained by Getty.

So far this season, I've yet to work an NFL Sunday. In the meantime, I've filled those days with the other "futbol."

It Could Have Been Worse...

While Miami's 41-39 loss to FSU was mostly played in rain, the real fun began with about two minutes left in the game. The skies opened and the downpour ensued for about an hour, leaving stadium personnel to deal with the effects.

Canes vs. Seminoles

Tomorrow, the Seminoles of Florida State University come to town, and a post on the grassy.com message boards reminded me of the game between these two rivals in Tallahassee five years ago.

Both schools entered the matchup 5-0 but the 'Canes swam out of the rain soaked capital of Florida with a 22-14 victory, led by Jarrett Payton's 97 yards rushing and Kellen Winslow's 106 yards recieving. Sean Taylor added a 50 yard interception return for a touchdown.




The game was played in a downpour, and FSU's field drainage system failed, creating puddles of standing water all over the field.
